09/11/2012 - Renault and Caterham to co-build Alpine sports cars in Dieppe

British sportscar company Caterham and French carmaker Renault have joined forces to design and build sportscars at Renault's Alpine plant in Dieppe.
The new venture, set to be created in 2013, will be called the Société des Automobiles Alpine Caterham. The Caterham Group will own a 50 per cent stake in the Automobiles Alpine Renault company, which is currently 100 per cent held by Renault SAS.

The cars will be jointly engineered using technology from both sides of the Channel, but built exclusively at the Alpine plant in Dieppe.

Renault's chief executive Carlos Ghosn said partnering with Caterham would help "realise our long-held ambition of creating a sports vehicle with the Alpine DNA". "The partnership will create new opportunities for the future of the Dieppe plant and the development of an expertise at the core of its historic role," he said. 

Dieppe was responsible for the original Alpine A110, and today handles manufacture of the outgoing RenaultSport Clio, and the rather different new 2013 Clio RS, with paddleshift gearbox and turbo engine only.
